And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3
It was December of 1987 and these are the words that leapt off the page as a young Navy sailor sat bent over his Bible. Just a year ago he had thought he had it all, …but something had been nagging inside of him. Something (Someone) was saying… “You have it all but you are still empty. Something is missing.” He left all of it behind when he had set sail for this six month cruise and for the first time had been honest with himself and others that ‘something was missing.’ One day while out on the town in Spain – he just walked out and left all his friends and returned to his boat. There he found himself with one of the only ones who hadn’t left in pursuit of a good time on shore; Bob an older sailor known for reading his Bible. The young man hesitated and then asked the question that would change his life forever. He asked, “What is Love?” The response, “Christ is Love,” “No, No I don’t want to talk about religion,” the young sailor insisted. “Neither do I.”, the elder responded, and as the answer was explained to him a glimmer of hope began to emerge on the young man’s countenance. He returned to his bunk following the conversation and opened a Bible he had brought along and starting reading the book of John. Unlike other times he had tried to read it, he read it with his eyes and heart wide open and the Lord of the universe spoke to his heart and revealed Himself to him. In the days that followed a young petty officer, Charles W Pearson, became a member of God’s family and heir to eternal life. Yet the best part was the void, the “something missing” in his life was filled and he was forever changed and given a peace that truly passed understanding.
In 1989 Chuck married his old sweetheart after winning her to the Lord. What followed were two children, Amanda (1990) and Christopher (1991) and a call to begin Bible College. The next ten years brought Andrew (1994), graduation from Bible College and Rebekah (2001). He was then called into fulltime service at Tidewater Baptist Temple, where he was ordained in 2002, Assistant Pastor in 2003 and Senior Pastor in 2004 following Dr. Hawkins call to more of a missionary help ministry.
Currently he teaches a Tuesday and Thursday night Bible Study along with his other regular services, desiring to reach other young men and women with the Christ-centered redemptive emphasis that he was blessed to have received as a young Christian.
His wife Cathy acts as his part-time secretary, nursery coordinator and teaches in various capacities as needed. She also has a heart for the women and teenagers and has been very active in the mission teen program at the church. Having an elementary teaching degree she has chosen to homeschool her four children and has been homeschooling since 1994.
Their eldest Amanda in the summer of 2011 married a wonderful Christian man, Matthew Nowak, and is currently attending Crown College pursuing an education degree. Christopher is also at Crown College in Knoxville, studying youth ministry, and believes the Lord will someday have him in fulltime Christian service. Andrew is attending Pensacola Christian College, pursing a future in a medical field. Rebekah was God’s gift to their family, to keep them young, and a true extra special blessing from the Lord. The Pearsons are blessed to be able to minister to their Tidewater Baptist church family and grow together with them in the grace and knowledge of the Saviour.
