God Dwelleth In Us

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

"God dwelleth in us". What a wonderful truth. God not only loves us enough to rescue us from ourselves, He loves us enough to dwell in us. Let's consider this together for a minute. God, the Creator of the Universe and of all life in it, dwells within every Christian.

What does it mean that He "dwells" in us? The definition is actually quite simple. To dwell means to abide, to continue, to remain. Can you picture this? God abides/remains in us. In fact, in Hebrews 13:5 He tells us that He "will never leave nor forsake" us! Never! What peace and comfort this gives. God chooses to express His love to each of us by remaining with us always. No matter what you are going through, God Himself IS right there!

There is more. Not only does God tell us that He "dwells", but He tells us that He "dwells IN us"! What does this mean for each of us? It means that God is not just near you; not just in your house or car WITH you, but that He Himself dwells within you! In 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 11 we read, "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God."There is really no way to know what a man is thinking except to be in his mind, to share his thoughts. What a glorious truth that our God would dwell within us to share EVERYTHING with us. God is able to think with you and to share His thoughts with you through the Holy Ghost that lives within you!

This is vital to the praying Christian. When you cannot form the words, you do not need to. This is why we read in Romans chapter 8 verse 26, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." When you need God most, it is often when we are least able to express our thoughts, our concerns, our needs. Do not be afraid dear Christian, it is God's purpose that He indwell us and be in our very being throughout all of our joys and all of our sorrows! What blessing! What security! What hope! God dwelleth in us!
